Urinary Incontinence
Managing and Treating Urinary Incontinence, Second Edition offers a comprehensive review of urinary incontinence (UI) for primary health care providers and health professionals working in acute, rehabilitative, home, or long-term care settings. Authors Diane Kaschak Newman, M.S.N., and Alan J. Wein, M.D., emphasize the importance of good communication between health care providers and patients.
In 12 chapters, the book summarizes UI and examines bladder and pelvic floor function, risk factors and diagnosis, the relationship to bowel dysfunction, pelvic organ prolapse, clinical assessment and evaluation, self-care practices and lifestyle changes aimed at reducing urinary symptoms, pelvic floor muscle rehabilitation, medications, and surgical treatments. The book includes extensive references, a glossary, a list of UI-related product and drug manufacturers, a resource organization list, and a detailed index. Numerous illustrations, diagrams, and photographs are included throughout the text. A CD–ROM that provides printable patient and provider tools, forms, care plans, and educational handouts accompanies the book.
